Hurricane Fran in 1996 was a reminder to us in this part of Eastern North Carolina that we can be in harms way in regards to hurricanes and tropical storms. Bertha came through without much damage in July. September brought Fran with much more damaging winds. Fran also came through in the middle of the night making the event more frightening.
